Film producer and director Balu Mahendra is planning to start a film institute. He feels that all he has learnt and finely honed in the art of film making should not die with him. Beginning September 2007, Balu Mahendra Cinema Pattarai offers a one-year diploma program in direction, cinematography and acting.Experienced artists and technicians of the film industry and award-winning writers will regularly present guest lectures. His first film was Kokila, starring Kamal Haasan and Shobha.
